Whole-Home & Garden Wi-Fi Upgrade

A residential upgrade that replaced an unreliable booster setup with properly placed, wired access points covering the whole property, inside and out.

The challenge

Where things started

The homeowner had been leaning on the Wi-Fi boosters supplied with their Sky broadband, but coverage was never dependable. Signal dropped in parts of the house, the garden had little usable connection at all, and the garage, which doubles as a home gym, was a complete dead-zone. Streaming devices, including the Sky boxes, regularly reported weak signal.

What Symnetrix did

The approach

  • Surveyed the property to map the weak areas, the garden and the garage, and to plan tidy cable routes
  • Installed four internal access points in positions chosen for even, overlapping coverage
  • Added one external access point to extend coverage across the garden
  • Ceiling-mounted an access point in the garage gym to clear the dead-zone
  • Ran Ethernet to every access point and terminated it into labelled wall sockets
  • Wired each access point back to the network so none depend on repeating a wireless signal

The result

How it turned out

Reliable Wi-Fi now runs from the house all the way to the bottom of the garden, with consistent speeds throughout rather than the drop-offs the boosters left behind.

The garage gym is fully covered from the ceiling-mounted unit, and devices that used to struggle, including the Sky boxes, now report excellent signal strength. With everything wired and labelled, the setup is also straightforward to support or extend later.
